Parents: Update on access and car park arrangements at The Leys College

Dear parent/carer,

I am writing to let you know about some updates to gate and car park arrangements at The Leys College, which will come into effect from Wednesday 13 January.

Following the incident before Christmas, we introduced some immediate measures to strengthen security. We have since been reviewing how these are working in practice, balancing the need for a safe and secure campus with the need to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.

These adjustments form part of our Safe Students, Safe Staff, Safe Spaces campaign and reflect our Learning Philosophy, which recognises that young people learn best when they feel safe, calm and supported.

What is staying the same

  • The front reception gate on Cuddesdon Way remains a pedestrian-only access point and one of our main controlled entrances to the campus.

Telford car park (rear of campus)

We know some students and families use the Telford car park at the rear of the campus.

From Wednesday 13 January:

  • The Telford car park will remain open all day for parking.
  • However, there will be no direct access into the main campus from the rear by Telford.

Students and staff who park at Telford will need to walk round to:

  • the library gates on Blackbird Leys Road, or
  • the front reception gate on Cuddesdon Way to enter the campus.

We recognise this may add a short walk for some students, and we are grateful for your understanding. This is part of a phased plan to introduce improved controlled access at the rear of the site over the coming weeks and months.

These changes are intended to provide sensible, proportionate improvements to security without causing unnecessary alarm. Our priority remains that The Leys College is a safe, welcoming environment for learning, where students can focus on their studies and feel confident that appropriate safeguards are in place.

If you have any questions or concerns about how these changes may affect your young person’s journey to and from college, please reach out to me and I will be happy to discuss this with you.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Hannah Thomas
