A perfect introduction to bookkeeping!
This AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) course is an entry-level bookkeeping qualification. It is ideal for anyone aged 19 or over who has minimal experience and would like an introduction to basic bookkeeping principles and skills. It may also suit self-employed learners looking to develop their bookkeeping knowledge.
Delivered in partnership with Mindful Education, this flexible course combines independent online learning with regular virtual classroom sessions, giving you real-time access to your tutor and fellow learners.
The course will introduce you to the role of a bookkeeper, along with basic bookkeeping concepts and transactions. You will also learn about the benefits and risks of accounting software and the importance of professional ethics in the accounting profession.

Course dates and attendance
The course starts on 14 September. Live virtual classes take place fortnightly on Wednesdays, from 6pm to 8pm.

What you'll learn
This qualification will prepare you for junior and entry-level bookkeeping roles. It delivers a solid foundation in bookkeeping, including processing customer and supplier transactions, ethical principles and the benefits and risks of using accounting software.
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded an AAT Level 1 Award in Bookkeeping. This internationally recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualification enables those working in bookkeeping, or those looking to pursue accountancy as a career, to gain knowledge, practical experience, and the all-important certification often sought by employers.

This Level 1 course has one unit:
- Bookkeeping fundamentals
Learners will cover a number of key areas including the role of the bookkeeper, understanding financial transactions, processing customer and supplier transactions, processing receipts and payments and understanding the benefits and risks of using accounting software to complete bookkeeping tasks.
How you'll learn and be assessed
Study Method – Online and Virtual Classroom
We have partnered with Mindful Education to deliver this course through our flexible Online and Virtual Classroom model.
Online, you will study award-winning video lessons, which are available on demand, and can be viewed from your phone, tablet or computer – meaning you can choose how, when and where you want to study. Lessons last around 45 minutes and include animations and motion graphics to bring concepts to life. Practice questions, downloadable lesson materials, and interactive case studies further enhance the learning experience.
Learners should expect to spend around 3-6 hours studying independently online each week.
Virtual Classroom sessions are a key element of the course, and you will benefit from regular sessions with a college tutor. Your tutor will review what you have learnt during your online lessons and will be on hand to provide guidance on progress and assessment. Regular discussion with classmates will help to reinforce key points while also providing the additional support and motivation that comes from being part of a group.
This course is assessed through a computer-based exam.
Progression
On successful completion of this course, you can progress to higher levels of the AAT accounting qualifications (Level 2, Level 3 and then on to Level 4).
Career opportunities
The skills and knowledge you will gain throughout this qualification will qualify you for roles including trainee bookkeeper, accounts administrator, billing/payments administrator/coordinator, accounts junior, accounts receivable/payable assistant, procurement and finance assistant, assistant cashier.
