Are you aged 13–16 and curious about space, rockets, robots and how things work?

The Science & Engineering Saturday Club at The Leys College gives you the chance to explore science and engineering through practical, hands-on activities FOR FREE. Whether you already love STEM or simply want to try something new, the Club is a place to experiment, create, ask questions and have fun.

Why join?

By taking part in the Saturday Club, you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Develop practical, creative, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Discover careers and industries including aerospace, robotics, engineering and software development
  • Take part in national Masterclasses with industry professionals
  • Create, test and develop your own ideas and projects
  • Exhibit work as part of the Saturday Club’s national Summer Show
  • Meet other young people who share your interests
  • Build your confidence while having fun and trying something new

Imagine. Build. Explore.

What if you could build a rocket, programme a robot or discover more about the stars above us?

Bring your curiosity and imagination. You don’t need to be an expert, just be ready to explore.

Join the Science and Engineering Saturday Club at The Leys College and discover where your ideas could take you.

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered what’s out there? Or imagined designing a robot, launching a rocket or building a vehicle of the future?

Over 15 Saturday morning sessions, you’ll discover how science and engineering come together in space exploration, aviation, robotics and communications.

You’ll take part in:

  • Robotics – 3 sessions: Learn about programming and build your understanding of how robots and autonomous vehicles work.
  • Rockets, aircraft and vehicles – 6 sessions: Design, build and explore rockets, planes and different types of vehicles, discovering the science that makes them move.
  • Astronomy and space – 6 sessions: Explore the night sky, discover past and present international space missions, and learn more about the fascinating science of our universe.

Along the way, you’ll also explore areas such as radio communications, sound and radio waves, gravity, aviation and autonomous technology.

Science and engineering working together

Space exploration brings many different areas of science and engineering together.

Mars rovers, spacecraft, rockets and satellites all rely on teams of scientists, engineers, programmers and technology specialists. Astronomy connects with subjects including robotics, communications, sound, physics and engineering.

The Club will help you discover these connections by learning through doing. Sessions are interactive workshops rather than lectures, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to experiment, build, test your ideas and learn alongside others.

If you’re keen to continue your journey, explore the Engineering options at The Leys College, once you’ve completed your GCSEs.
